Oihane Cabezas Basurko, a researcher at AZTI, shows us how the Ulysses project carries out scientific monitoring on 10 beaches in the Basque Country, including Hondarribia.
Throughout the year, we conduct regular sampling on the sand, analyzing both visible litter and microplastics. This data helps us understand their origin, evolution, and impact on the environment.
Thanks to this work, we obtain a detailed picture of the state of our coastline, which we can compare with other regions of Spain and Europe. With that knowledge, we work to promote more effective prevention measures and increase public awareness.
